We take things for granted

Being the geek that I am, technological things just make sense to me.  I understand how it works and it's always easy for me to pick up a new piece of technology and just figure it out.  A week ago I had a very eye-opening experience that I want to share.

Last week I was visiting my family in East Tennessee.  While I was there, my cousin got a new computer.  He decided to donate his old one to my granny.  Here is where the fun begins.  After some frustrations with the HP printer, I got everything set up and ready for her.  I put the icons on the desktop that she needed and sat her down.  What I was amazed to find out is that she knew NOTHING about how to use the computer.

I'm not sure why I was surprised, but I was.  I had to teach her about how to move the mouse, click on things, double click on icons, etc.  I had fun teaching her how to do the basic things she needed to do.  I showed her solitaire and this was still a challenge because she'd never played the game before with a physical deck of cards.  I'm hopeful that I can get her on the Internet in a few months.  We'll just see how well she adapts.  I just spoke to her a couple of hours ago, and I'm happy to report that she's been playing solitaire on her own.  She said it was fun and addicting. :)
